ArLA 2026 Annual Conference
Sunday October 18, 2026 10:00am - 10:50am CDT
What if you could boost 3rd-grade reading proficiency and ATLAS performance using high-impact, no-prep strategies that turn every library lesson into an engaging literacy adventure no flexible seating or extra time required? This fast-paced, highly interactive session equips K–12 librarians with practical strategies to advance 3rd Grade Reading Promotion while aligning with Arkansas ELA standards, Library Media Specialist competencies, and the ATLAS assessment.
Participants will take part in rapid “Trail Stops,” including: a mini ATLAS Task Builder, a Story Elements Quick Challenge using mentor texts, and a Vocabulary & Fluency Boost using repeatable routines. Attendees will use guided templates to build a “3rd Grade Literacy Trail Map” that they can immediately implement. Live polling, quick-write responses, and think-pair-share moments will ensure active engagement while modeling strategies transferable to both library and classroom settings. This session aligns with “Camp ArLA: New Trails in Library Services” by demonstrating how librarians can blaze innovative, standards-driven paths within traditional instructional constraints. Grounded in the Arkansas Arboretum Trail’s emphasis on Youth Services and 3rd Grade Reading Promotion, the session transforms the library into a strategic partner in ensuring every student is on the path to reading success by third grade.
